The Namib: The most ancient desert in the world, acts as a barrier between the central highlands and the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
It is also divided in to three successive north–south-trending strips:the very narrow coastal region along the Atlantic, strongly subject to marine influences; the Outer Namib, occupying the rest of the western half of the desert; and the Inner Namib, constituting the eastern portion.

The magnificent Fish River Canyon and the eastern edge of the Namib Desert stretch north from the Orange River in the south and represent an area of stark beauty.
The canyon is the second largest canyon in the world next in line before the Grand Canyon in North America
This southern and central interior region is a vast open expanse of grasslands and desert vegetation
